Telecoms Engineer

For this role we are ideally seeking someone with design, integration or test experience in the
Telecoms industry with either a Mobile Operator or with a leading market vendor. The role requires
expertise in core software engineering practices, network management and administration, and core
wireless networks knowledge.

RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Technical clarification of the Customer requirements and design of the most appropriate solution to those within the structure of our solution/service set so as to meet customer expectations
• Design and sign-off of solution/service
• Implementation, integration and test of solution/service
• Interface with the Project Manager, other engineers in the team and test staff
• Travel as relevant to the assigned projects
• Delivery of customer training
• Weekly reporting of progress against published plans

Specific Duties:

As a Telcoms Engineer, you will take responsibility for the technical understanding of the customer
requirements and the explanation specification of the solution. Day to day activities may include:

• Gathering appropriate information from the sales/marketing team and technical experts
• Developing and maintaining a productive working relationship with the customer and third party suppliers
• Supporting the Project Manager in developing a project plan and identification of risks
• Participating in project start-up meetings and workshops
• Reporting on progress to the Senior/Principal Architect and customers, as appropriate
• Reviewing deliverables and documents to ensure compliance with company and industry standards
• Supporting the delivery of the solution/completion of the project, to the customer as planned

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Experience and knowledge of the Wireless industry platforms is a distinct advantage: - e.g. SMSC’s, MMSC’s, IMS nodes, SDP’s etc
• Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience within the Telecoms industry (or specific knowledge of this industry garnered through College Coursework etc.), software development and delivery domain as an engineer or developer.
• Familiarity with large systems design, with high transaction volumes and high availability requirements
• Experience and proven capability of systems solution design in a solution/service environment
• Technical knowledge and experience of mobile software and technologies
• Effective communicator – experience with customer presentations
• Web services knowledge (SOAP, REST) is an advantage
• Knowledge and experience of some of the following telecoms protocols is beneficial:
• MM4, MM7, SMPP,SMTP, SUA, SIP,SS7
• Experience of IP or SS7 network architecture is beneficial.
• Testing experience an advantage.
• Knowledge of software development methodologies and the software development lifecycle.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, Excel etc.
• BSc honors degree level in Engineering or equivalent.
